3. What does 4/1 and 4/4 mean?

  • 4/1 and 4/4 refer to the type of printing to be done on both sides of the paper. 4/1 means CMYK on the front and black on the back (or inside). 4/4 means CMYK on both the front and back.

4. What does 300 DPI mean?

  • 300 DPI refers to the resolution of the image. All artwork submitted for commercial printing needs to be at least 300 DPI in order to print without pixelation. This is easily set in most design programs.

6. How much data can fit on one DVD?

7. What is the difference between DVD-5, DVD-9 and DVD-10?

  • DVD-5 is a single-sided, single-layered disc that holds 4.7GBs of data or about 2 hours of video. DVD-9 is a single-sided, dual-layered disc that holds 8.5GBs of data or about 4 hours of video. DVD-10 is a double-sided, single-layered disc that holds 9.4GBs of data or about 4 hours of video.

8. What is a bleed area?

  • A bleed area is the amount of artwork that falls outside of the printing bounding box, or outside the crop marks and trim marks. It is necessary to have a 0.125" bleed area on all submitted art files in order to ensure that when the print out is cut there will not be any errors, such as slivers of white around the edges.
